How can you recognize the difference between the offset and raster intaglio printing for the Unox stamp (NVPH 2476) and the Green stamp (NVPH 2556)?

Who can help me? Thanks in advance.

Hello 3rosas

The difference in these 2 printing techniques can only be distinguished from each other if you put the stamps under a microscope and enlarge them.
RDD is a printing technique with dots (raster)
Offset print is a flat, even print (without dots)

Thank you Jan for your response. I have looked at more than 100 stamps NVPH 2476 (Unox) and more than 100 stamps 2556 (Green) with a strong loupe and all stamps seemed / turned out to be rdd (dots clearly visible) so no offset. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for the advice offered.

Hello 3rosas

If the dots are clearly visible if you do not do anything wrong then they are RDD

Unfortunately guys !!!

Grids can be used with rake rotogravure as well as with offset and letterpress.

With rake rotogravure a raster is only because of the retention of the ink that otherwise would be wiped away by the squeegee blade, with the other techniques it usually has an optical function - dark vs light effect or to mix colors.

It is a pity that there is no good opportunity here to give a kind of course with detail images. In other forums this could be better ....

Thom-postzegel
It's not such an easy topic.
Small example, the same stamps with four different printing techniques.

StTDr = Steel Intaglio Printing
BDr = Letterpress
ODr = Offset printing
RaTDr = Rastergravure
