As far as we know, there are 5 different ways to give a lighter a working flame.

  • Flint
  • Piezo
  • Battery
  • Ironer
  • Magnet

The first three are the best known.

I still have to do some research on the iron and the magnet ignition, but they do exist.

the magnet ignition as an example 2427949

theironer 3180827 and 3575905

I would like to request a new field to show this clearly in the catalog. And sortable.

Preferably as a drop-down menu.

Gosh, nice that you give that lighter as an example! My grandfather had and my uncle has another such lighter, a silver or silver-plated one. I did not know that they were ignited by magnet. But then again, I am not going to open any lighters, much too dangerous and certainly in the past when I was little!

Are you not a manager of lighters then? Or is it again 1 of your new projects that you are semi-manager of?

My grandmother used to have a silver-plated, almost egg-shaped lighter that also had a lighter button. It did have a fuse that lit when you pressed the button. I suspect by a pebble.

What do you mean by strings? I do have a number of miniatures in the shape of cans (but then miniature) and if you pulled the sleeve off, it turned on. Or miniature lighters with a lid, where you then had to scrape the lighter along stone or something else. Do you mean that?

And as a layman: what is Piezo?

I think you are confusing "to be used" and "to be used".

You can also use matches instead of a lighter.

Dear lighter collector,

Recently, as a lighter collector, I bought a lighter from the brand "Rothschild". This lighter has about the model of the Dupont lighter in double version and a black band. It is a flint model on gas.

Swiss made and in good (used) condition.

Can you tell me more about this and if necessary. give the value

Dear Mr Autominologist,

I bought this lighter at a flea market and as a collector of smoking accessories, this caught my eye.

On no site can I find information about the Rothscgild lighter brand on this site and now my hopes are pinned on the lighter forum

I know the value of this item or the price I paid for it, but is this the value or have I paid too much or too little?

Try on google under the search term "Rothschild lighter",

I will find a lot.

(of course not sure what you are looking for exactly)

hallo,

from a legacy I have a very large collection of different Ronson lighters in my possession. In total it concerns 4 moving boxes full. The collection also consists of Ronson accessories, posters, advertising material, etc. I do not like to take a picture of each lighter or to display everything and start counting because this is too time-consuming. I would therefore prefer to sell this collection in one go because I am not a collector myself. What options are there through Catawiki to be able to sell this collection? [ad removed by moderator]

Look up an auction on the site that this would fit in and contact the auctioneer at the top of the page. Or contact Customer Service; link is at the top of this page.

You also have catalytic lighters, ignited by the reaction of methanol, platinum and oxygen.

The first model dates from about 1907.
