It's the doubles day today.
Ireland 1992: the series '1992 WWF' appears twice in the list, and there is nowhere a space or blank too much in the name (I have the impression) ...
One series shows the stamps, the other series the FDCs. They should be shown together.
Anyone have an idea of what's 'going on'?

Some users do not seem to select the choice presented to them in the "auto-complete" function when entering the Series field. This creates different series with the same name. Or series names are "corrected" by users. An administrator can merge such series.
An alternative is to create a closed list, which has its advantages and disadvantages.

Closed list generates a lot of extra work for administrators, has been done before and was soon released ...

Apparently,
do not select the choice presented to them

So, if I add some of the same series, and I keep filling the field with copy / paste, then I also cause duplicate identical series myself? However, usually I look at such an added item and click on the series name to see if all items appear neatly: the one already present with the added one. One of the control mechanisms that I build in for myself to cause as little inconvenience as possible to others with my input. And it is always correct I had the impression.

In addition, I now have the question: if in the specific case mentioned, items are added (the maximum cards 1992 WWF) ... which series should you choose? Can you find out somewhere which sequence is the true Jacob? If I can, I could correct something like this myself like this:
Select the false sequence, 'change' and change the series name via select (the real series name then).
If you cannot see which the is a real series name, then it becomes a kind of lottery.
Or may I assume that the first occurrence is the real series name?
Or does it not matter which of the two is generalized?

As @Collectioneur said: admins can merge them. There are probably hundreds of them in the catalog. If you want to do that yourself you have even more work: apparently LD is so intelligent that changing to an identical value is not saved (even if you see it as 2 lines), so you first have to change eg "WWF" to "WWFx "and then back to" WWF ", hoping that nothing goes wrong. This will give administrators even more review work.

Edit: @ Raoul62, if you copy / paste the drop-down list opens, if you choose the existing one again, you are sure that it runs smoothly.

It can make a difference which one you take. There may be translations and aliases under the original entry, which can disappear from the catalog if you choose the wrong one. Having an administrator merge is the best option.

You're right about that review work there in Jummeke, but normally such a review would be just a 'click' away. The work is then already done, and as is very clear here (1992 WWF becomes 1992 WWF). Doesn't need much research.
Because I don't know who 'the real Jacob' is, I first try to find out if I wouldn't cause a nuisance after all. Suppose I change them all to the fake '1992 WWF'...
If it doesn't matter which sequence is used, can I still help with my effort?
I can imagine that 'merging' 2 series by an administrator is more work. And there are still reviews to do from 10 years ago ...

In addition, then I can continue: I want to add the 4 maximum cards, but preferably correctly. Otherwise, 4 more items have to be 'merged' if they end up in the wrong series '1992 WWF'.
And, if you later look for the maximum cards, find an item from the series and click through, you will not see them (belong to the other series '1992 WWF'). Consequence: 'I'll just add them' ... then they will be double again. An oil slick. I myself almost added the FDCs because they were not shown in one series. Fortunately, I always look a little further ... which sometimes causes additional problems to appear. And I want to solve it (or at least contribute to it).

In summary: what effort can I - as a user - make in such a situation to save an administrator work, now and later?

Thank you fazerco. So I really do not mind, and leave the maximum cards for what they are.

More common, series names that appear identical. There are even 4 of '1992 WWF'. To know which one is the right one for what you want at the moment, you can compare the URL (usually visible at the bottom of your browser status bar) if you hover over the series name with your mouse. The series have different internal number references.

As a rule of thumb, I take the series with the most linked items as a base. If you search the catalog on the series name and then zoom in on section 'postage stamps', you will see how many items are linked to the series.

Ultimately, the aim is to merge the series by an administrator. An aid in this is that the series to be deleted is temporarily named '& lt; duplicate '.

Still, I'm not going to do it now, Wilfred. Now that I look a little further, the mysteries get bigger. And the fear of helping something 'au savon' too.

In the history of 2009: Series: | 1992 W.W.F. | & gt; & gt; | 1992 W.W.F. (IER 296)

According to the history the series name has not changed since then, but is now different: '1992 WWF', the series name is frozen in the items 'postage' (cannot be changed) and the items originated by Collect-A-ROM.
Reason enough for me to keep my hands at home :)

In the meantime found several similar situations in other countries. I'll do something else for now.

1992 WWF series merged. These double series are more common indeed. Please send me a PM in case you come across that again.

An administrator can merge such series.

A little more accurate: Merging of series etc., can only be done by a super administrator.

@fazerco

Don't forget the 1992 European single market

Well, I'm proud of myself. I was able to arrange this myself.
1 of the 3 had the series name ' 1992 European internal market (IER 300) ', from CAR. One stamp in the series.
With the other, similar, 2 serial names, the one (IER300) was not listed. A series of 1 and a series of 3. I gave these the CAR series name and now there is still one single market series. If you click on it you will see all 6 items.
The CAR serial names must therefore be used to get everything in one unique series. And that by really selecting (actually clicking in the drop-down list after typing in part or full series name). Do not click on the series = risk that a new series (with the same name) will be born.

However, it is better not to follow CAR for WWF cases. These series (stamps, FDCs, Maximum cards, occasion cards, sheets, blocks, series, ...) are given a name in the form of 'YYYY WWF'.
This way a WWF collector can easily oversee everything for a specific year , across countries / regions.
CAR has sometimes given them a series name that does not match this. And, they cannot be changed.
If CAR is discontinued, those serial names can also be adapted to the LD house style.

And now for the layman: what does the abbreviation CAR stand for?

CAR = Collect-A-Rom. This will initially fill the stamp catalog.
