Ladies and Gentlemen,

Another puzzle, which we have to decide.
It is about the series or series New Worlds (Science Fiction.)
Part is under books :
https://www.lastdodo.nl/nl/areas/194507-new- worlds-magazine
and another part under magazines:
https://www.lastdodo.nl/nl/areas/4893045-new-worlds-science-fiction-gbr

The difficulty here is that it is called " New Worlds" started out as a multi-story release in one tape. However, from 1965 to 1967 they switched to one story per tape according to the cover. Then they went back to multiple stories.
At least as far as I can see at:
http: //www.philsp.com/mags/newworlds.html#nwus
In addition to the "regular" UK editions, there have also been New Zealand (1954?-1965?) and Canada (1954-1963) editions under the name "New Worlds Science Fiction".
In 1960 and from 1971 to 1975 there were also American publications under this name. So not just under "New Worlds".

As it says at the top of the web page at PhilSP:
The history of New Worlds is extremely complex, and begins in 1936 with the creation, by Maurice K. Hansen, of a fanzine called Novae Terrae (Latin for New Worlds). After 29 issues, Hanson tired of the workload involved, and handed it over to John Carnell, who renamed the fanzine New Worlds, and restarted the numbering, but the magazine only existed for 4 issues, due to the outbreak of war in 1939. The main sequence started in 1946, still under the editorship of John Carnell, settling down to a monthly schedule in 1954 which continued, in digest format until mid-1964.
There was also a predecessor of this magazine: "Novae Terrae".

And to make things even more complicated, the text reads:
1971 also saw the launch of a quarterly paperback anthology series called New Worlds Quarterly. The name reverted to New Worlds with the sixth issue
We don't have any items in LD yet, as far as I can tell.

It seems to me that "New Worlds" and "New Worlds Science Fiction" are two different series, not looking at the country where they were issued.

The "New Worlds Quarterly" seems to be another name for "New Worlds"?

Anyone have an idea how we can go about this?
The ( most) editions look like Digest (a kind of pocket) but periodically published as a magazine.
As long as they come together and cannot be found in several sections.

Gr. Peter

I read through it once, and it is indeed confusing, from hot to here and from that to that, where finances and interests (and workload) apparently predominate.
Back to the question: in my opinion all issues are properly in place in the magazine section. It is and were/are  regularly (ahem) recurring items. And as far as I know, magazines are also in paberback format (in addition to a4, digest, large digest, slick and paperback).
The New Worlds Science Fiction editions seem to me to be filtering in print/layout formats, and no adjacent matters (the numbering continues).
The Quarterly editions (10) are also seen as editions. although these are just 1 -10 but also continue in the 'summary list'  and further editions.
All this viewed from the point : magazine in div. printing forms, regardless of the country of issue.
Nice clear picture format : (here-external), and yet the wiki which explains somewhat more clearly (as far as possible) than the philsp site. There is still more to be found, but that is getting a bit much..
So just the definition for magazine....hope it helps something in the thinking process.

Thanks, Leike-w
I was thinking in that direction too. After looking very closely, that one "series" appears to have had different names.
I have included it as an alias with the most common: "New Worlds Science Fiction [GBR]".
I did put GBR after it to to indicate the difference with the Canadian, New Zealand or American editions, if someone puts it in there.
https://www.lastdodo.nl/nl/areas/4893045-new-worlds-science-fiction-gbr

And thanks for that link to the Luminist Archives. I did come across it once, but I could never find it again because I forgot the name.

Anyone else?
If not, those from books can also be transferred to magazines.

For the sake of length and clarity it should be considered not to use aliases, but to fill them in as Name variations.

DeBijzaak doesn't want to make it more difficult, but became aware today by request from Morits to  Jilles regarding transfer of books to magazines, the series SF-Impulse is probably a main or sub-part of the New Worlds series (check Luminist's New Worlds SF (and SF Impulse) 171 - February 1967. the main title. and the layout of SF Impulse.... That's what I meant by the 'confusion' ..another example of.. Sorry ;-)

Have a look in the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction by Peter Nicholls, it contains all SF journals and the name changes they have undergone over time. Very enlightening.

I'm working on the US/English part of my SF right now, I'll get to it.

Thank you everyone. What a chaos some titles are with all those interim renamings and (identical or not) editions in other countries.

This is not the first, but certainly not the last we will encounter.
But I'll take a deep dive, if I have time.

Astounding is already in the list of Meta series names. All items must of course still be linked to it.

We are talking about a meta name and if it gets very long you may not be able to put a different name here. Anyway, you are the administrator yourself, so you can change this name yourself.
