vertigo Morits FransS @leike-w @Lyonesse and other enthusiasts

I once saw (and heard) The Soft machine live in Rotterdam, I think. Well that was indeed all fine not to follow the other one.
To continue about old guard music in a new topic: in the past (hear me now) there was no internet, no you tube, but you had to talk about information about artists from "modern" radio presenters and what came by in sporadic TV broadcasts and through friends. Tineke de Nooij from the sea Veronica tipped us off on the illustrious bands, such as indeed the Groundhogs, The Collectors. And how difficult it was to get LPs from those bands.... That was calling a music store and/or walking in and out. In cubicles and headphones on and listen to various LPs (or sometimes singles). Also the time of the birth of beautiful artworks/illustrations on covers. And unforgettable Sjef van Oekel's disco corner, I often put it on via you tube: wonderful how Don van Vliet played everything..

Captain Beefheart in Van Oekel's Discohoek (Netherlands TV show

)

I'm really curious if anyone has any tips for me...

Or also in the later composition of Soft Machine, such as Bundles and Softs. Insane.
I took my own advice for a while and am now listening to Softs, completely different from the albums with the original line-up

That's how I was 'pushed' in a different direction by the radio. Michiel de Ruyter had a radio program on Monday (we're talking about 1980) and there I got to know Miles Davis, Toshiko Akiyoshi Lew Tabackin Big Band and last but not least Keith Jarrett

Harry56 ea When I have to be honest, a big trigger for me (especially alternative current at the time, such as electronic) was Ad Visser's evening (radio) program : superclean dreammachine. Boy.. it was difficult to find out certain music... Oopsie.. now my age filters through a bit ;) .

I started in the early 1960s when my mother brought a sheet of music (Muziek Parade) from her work. It contained a monthly top 30 and an advertisement for Radio Luxembourg on Sunday afternoons. Then on the Dutch radio an hour a week with Jos Brink with Between 10+ and Twenty min. From January 1965 I made the top 40 of Veronica in the record store every week. The problem was indeed that a lot of music was not available in the record stores. Later bought many unknown records in sales because they couldn't sell them on the paving stones ;-) Getting to know many new artists through festivals, especially blues. And that still happens. The Internet makes getting acquainted and buying easier. (for iters: "The Long Tail")
In terms of taste, I followed the trail back from the sixties blues (Animals, Stones, John Mayal, Yardbirds etc). That's how I came to Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James and others They also hadn't invented mustard themselves and that led me to T-Bone Walker and Louis Jordan in the 1940s. From there to the 1930s Robert Johnson, Charlie Patton and the 1920s with Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith and Victoria Spivey. But I also continued to follow modern blues. But above all that there is only 1 band and that is The Beatles; say The Harlem Globetrotters of music ;-)

Certainly recognizable are the stories of how you used to come up with the idea of listening to unknown bands. If you (and others) mention some songs and band/artist, it will be easier for me to search on you tube. Although the genres are not so different, the musical taste can be slightly different, with 1 a song provides timeless shivers, with the other that is not the case. Miles Davis too Jazzy for me, but his ex-wife (for 2 years) Betty Davis is a different story. Separate life story of this (now deceased) lady. 1 of the most illustrious female artists, of which no footage has surfaced. Just a handful of photos.

No idea if it's something for you, but I've been very charmed by Danielle Nicole for a few years now. Formidable voice and good bass. This is a live recording from the Moulin Blues Festival. Classic blues with a well constructed guitar solo. Danielle Nicole Band.

I also have on offer: two young sisters. Refreshing old blues. A cover of a song you undoubtedly know: Larkin Poe

Warren Zevon. (Singer / Songwriter) has written quite a few songs that have been recorded by Linda Ronstadt including Carmelita and Poor Poor Pitifull Me. But this one is his solo. A hit in the 70s, but not so long ago with a funny animated film Werewolves of London

And I don't know if this is anything, but I love it: Modern artists recording old and new songs with equipment from 1925 including Elton John, Jack White, Los Lobos, Alabama Shakes and many others. This is the very first electrical recording device that has been restored. The American Epic Sessions .

In the late 1970s I once recorded a Jackson Browne concert with Warren Zevon from the radio. Those songs that Warren Zevon played were a revelation. I still remember Excitable Boy and Carmelita. I'm not a fan of live recordings, but in this case it sounded much better than his studio LPs. On the West Coast, they tend to overproduce.

Harry56
Nowadays I listen to the radio a lot, especially Jazz & Soul stations. A few songs that stood out to me:

Rafael Saadiq - Stone Rollin'
José James (pronounced: Hossee Djeems) - It's All Over Body (Oddisee Remix)
Gregory Porter - 1960 What?
(= almost the only song by Gregory Porter that is worth listening to. He suffers from a nagging voice. This is less noticeable with up-tempo songs).

Now that's so nice, to call something German. Years ago I caught myself searching mostly in English music, but in recent years I found out that there are musicians and/or bands in all languages, all countries, very worthwhile. We should certainly not ignore the continent of Africa and South America. vertigo What you say, I did indeed start that topic to gain some more knowledge. Although LastDodo is a collector's site, collecting is also closely linked to what is beautiful. Be it a comic book, book, game, stamp. And music is more than just reading and watching, our ears are involved in that. So it may be that a music chat doesn't really belong in a collectors forum, but in a music cafe. So it is also possible in a LastDodo cafe, but yes that is under 1 denominator and then reactions are mixed up.

South America Harry56 good that you say that, it is in English (I think) but I can recommend it, especially in times when you suffer from a burnout or are just frustrated. Sepultura - Roots bloody roots. Better adjust the volume of your boxes !!.

Eric Burden also one of my favourites, Charles you certainly have varied tastes. Animals versus the genre of Sepultura, the latter is a bridge too far for me, I can't follow that and it makes me very restless. In any case, I now have so many tips that I can continue, thanks!

Eric Burdon has been on the solo tour for years and as far as I know he is still performing. His voice is still pretty good for someone his age. I can recommend Charles to listen to Inside Looking Out . Is a heavier song than It's My Life. The very early work from the years 1964 - 1966 is recommended (says this fan from the very beginning ;-))

As for German: Spider Murphy Gang. You could say the German "Normal". Everyone probably remembers Skandal im Sperrbezirk . And yes auch ich habe ihre Number schon ;-)
I also have Reinhard Mey on offer. A true singer/songwriter. " Was kann schöner sein auf Erden als Politiker zu zijn " ;-)

Warren Zevon did indeed die young. Pity. Excitable Boy is his second LP and very good. Producer was Jackson Brown. In 2009 a box of him appeared with his first 5 records in the series Original Album Series. Those are reasonably well remastered by Rhino.

And finally, a cherry on the cake. Just another singer / songwriter whose concert I attend every year: Doug MacLeod. Here's a live recording of The Entitled Few . It is about people who feel better than the underprivileged, but who find out at the end of their lives that at that moment everyone is equal. Appropriate for this Christmas season I think.
