I am looking for the title/author of the next trilogy (multiple parts)
It is about a boy from the Achterhoek who is making it in pre-World War I Rotterdam. From sausage trader to shipowner. Later they live with the family on the Boompjes in Rotterdam, a baby dies and the older children study in America. He and his wife visit friends in Bergen (Norway), and then sail their ships to get there. I think there are 3 or 4 books of it. His wife's name is Berendien and she also comes from the east of the country
So the main character comes from the east of the country and wants to see the big world, his uncle is a butcher and makes the best sausage, he takes a load of it with him and comes to Rotterdam and starts delivering sausage and meat products to parlevinkers in the harbor. Ship supplies. Soon he rents a small warehouse with an office in the red light district, he has some contact with a lady of easy virtue called Lina. When he gets further along with his trade, he marries Berendien, a girl from his village. They build up a nice company, there is a better warehouse and a house above it, he starts participating in ships and becomes a respected trader with relations in ship chartering and shipping routes. They prefer to become shipowners, so they have friendly business relations in Bergen Norway, where his wife Berendien's uncle likes to visit. They lose a baby to food poisoning through one of the first types of baby feeding devices as his wife is unable to breastfeed. After that, there will be a minus for the next children. The big boys in America are apprenticed to relations and introduce new working hours, etc. They make it through the war and then rebuild the company. Whether that is the first or second world war I can not say. It was a number of books about the same main characters, a trilogy or something, a number of them. It was not a decidedly Christian book, but it was neat, both as a text and as a book of morals. I hope one of you can help me further. I am very curious. Thanks in advance. Carry
