1.       Lastdodo: LD.

Consists of a number of sections (catalogues, collection areas).
Each catalogue consists of a number of items.
Each item has an unique ID (the LD-ID or LD number) and a number of fields containing data or information.
The contents of those fields are the basis of the filtering and sorting options on LD.
Filling in those fields as completely as possible ensures that the filters and search options can function optimally within that section.

LD has a BASIC MANUAL, with a number of general rules and agreements.
Most sections have their own additional manual., with a number of rules and agreements.
The rules and agreements must be followed by everyone. LD is not a personal catalog.

It is easy to add items to the catalogue. To do so, first select the correct collection area. Then check if the item already exists.  See also: ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ / ‘How can I add an item to the catalogue?’

But first of all: take the time to read the Frequently Asked Questions, the Basic Manual and the manual of the collection area you want to contribute.
Because of the many possibilities that the site offers, everything seems rather complex and overwhelming. Good preparation reduces the chance of disappointments.

2.       The Main Screen

1.       Your avatar (and personal menu) if logged in correctly
2.       Help -> Frequently Asked Questions
3.       Help -> a brief overview of what LD can do
4.       The most popular catalogues on LD: for fast access

The catalogue is the ideal starting point for starting your collection, your wish list and/or your shop.
You can search, filter and sort in it. The items can be viewed in detail, added individually - or in bulk - to your lists (collection - wish list - shop).

3.       Your Personal Menu

1.       Settings: here you can fill in your profile
2.       My Profile: how others can see your profile
3.       My collection, My Wish list and My shop: the items in the catalogue  you have marked in your lists
4.       My shop orders: what others have ordered in your shop
5.       My Messages: internal LD messaging system between yourself and other users on the site
6.       My shopping carts: items you have marked to buy in shops of others
7.       My purchases: confirmed orders in other shops, with follow-up

It is important for others, when communicating, you fill in your profile.  Especially a name, title (sir or madam) and country of residence.  LD is not a personal catalog.  It is a social and warm community of and between collectors from all over the world.

4.       STAMPS collection area

4.1. The main screen of the Stamps Section

If you choose the Stamps section, you first see the Stamps section Main screen.

1.       Some info, and buttons that you don't have to use on LD at the start.
2.       A brief overview of some nice to know things in the Stamps section:
 - overview of the newly added items in the catalogue;
 - overview of the newly added items in shops;
 - overview of the newly added items in collections;
 - overview of the newly added items in wish lists;
 - Popular auctions (on Catawiki, not LD);
 - newest discussions on the Stamps forum (community):
 - Featured shops;
 - valuable items in the Stamps section;
 - Old items in the Stamp section;
 - Largest collections in the Stamp section;
 - Moderators in the Stamps section
3.       The basic (first) filters you should use.  The filters are based on what the contributors have filled in in the fields of the items in the Stamps section.

4.2. The Basic filters

Left,  you see the first filter option ‘Regions’.  The most popular are shown.

At the bottom you will see the option "ALL REGIONS".  Choose that option to open an overview and search screen. There you will find the appropriate area / country that you are looking for.

You can coose a letter to view the Regions starting with that letter.
You can also type a (part of) region name zo limit the list.  If you are looking for Vietnam Regions type Viet + Enter:

Click on the name of the region you want to look in, and the LD Stamp catalogue for that region (or country) will appear on the screen:

4.3. Catalogue screen

If a region / country was chosen, you will enter the Catalog screen for that region.

1.       Information about the choosen Region (Country)
2.        A switch filter button ‘Standard’ (postal stamps and blocs) and ‘All’ (with Postage Due, FDC, Sheets, ...)
3.       Search in the results (7) on title, catalogue number, …
4.       Select Bulk Mode active (green) or inactive (grey).  If active, you can select multiple items to add in bulk in Collection, Wish list or Shop
5.       Sort (listbox)
6.       Filter section on the left.  You can filter on almost anything like Year (of issue), Theme, Face value, Type, …, color, … Stamp issue (name of a series)
7.        The result window showing the items found based on your filters and in the order of the selected sorting
8.       The result shows 60 items / page.  You can go to another page clicking the page number here
9.       Global search in the Stamp catalog

If you know the LD-ID of an item, you can enter that number in the search box (9) to go directly to the detail of the item.
If the searched item appears on the screen in the results (7) you can click on it to go to the detail of that item.

If you enable the Select Bulk Mode (4) then each item in the result screen gets a checkbox (4a).  You can check multiple items.  At the bottom, left,  you see how many items you have checked (4b).
At the bottom, right, you have 3 buttons to add the selected items in Shop, Collection or Wishlist (4c).

 4.4. Exercise

Suppose you have a nice bloc of stamps, and you want to put it in your shop.

What do we know about this block, even without any catalogue.
It’s from India, it contains all different stamps.  That’s makes it a ‘Block’ on LD.
The block was issued in 2017.  It is depicting submarines.

Don’t add!  Search first! Go to the Stamps section on LD, and search ‘India’.

On the left, filter on year 2017 (From and To).
The result says: 87 items.
Do you see the importance of always entering the year of issue when adding?

You can view all items in the result window. Or choose to refine further.
You can refine by Theme, or by Type.
By Theme is tricky: if the contributor didn't fill in the appropriate theme correctly, you won't find it that way. This shows the importance of entering as much information as possible when adding it to the stamp catalogue.

Let’s filter on block.

Result: 21 selected in the result window.

Let’s further filter on Theme:

Here you see already the Theme ‘Submarines’.  Sometimes the list contains more lines.  You can use the ‘Type here to filter’ box to search:

It searches as you type.

Click on ‘Submarines’ and … TATA!  The item is already there on LD!

Was’nt so hard to find it?

You can use the Bulk method to add one item in your shop.  Or you can go to the detail (click on it) and add it in your shop from there.

Conclusion: most of the items you want to sell are already present on LD. This way you can easily and quickly put them for sale in your shop. If necessary, add your own image to your shop. But: don't make duplicates in the catalog. That annoys the other users.

Next lessons perhaps how to add a realy new item.
Just give me some time to do something else also ... like smoking my cigar :)
