À partir du milieu du XVIe siècle, l’Espagne colonisa le pays jusqu’à la révolution philippine en août 1896. La guerre américano-espagnole pourtant a amené les États-Unis à gouverner les Philippines jusqu’à la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, lorsque l’indépendance du pays est devenue une réalité et que la république a été proclamée.

From the mid-16th century, Spain colonized the country until the Philippine Revolution in August 1896. The American-Spanish war however led the United States to govern the Philippines until the end of the Second World War, when independence of the country became a reality and the republic was proclaimed.
