E - Kiribati, formerly known as the Gilbert Islands, is an archipelagic state in Oceania, consisting of three archipelagos in the Pacific Ocean: the Gilbert Islands themselves, the Phoenix Islands and most of the Line and Banaba Islands. Kiribati is made up of these three main archipelagos, comprising a total of 32 atolls and Banaba, a "high island" located further away from Nauru than Tarawa.
