F – A l’occasion du 25ième anniversaire du premier vol d’avion par les frères Wright, une conférence internationale fut tenue à Washington du 12 au 14 décembre 1928, à l’initiative du président Calvin Coolidge. Les personnages les plus importants se réunirent pour échanger de l’information et honorer les réalisations de l’aviation qui était acceptée comme faisant part de la vie moderne. Les avions avaient prouvé leur valeur pendant la Grande Guerre et de plus en plus l’aviation civile prit un rôle décisif en plusieurs domaines, comme par exemple le service postal aérien.
E – On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the first flight by the Wright brothers, an international conference was held in Washington from December 12 to 14, 1928, on the initiative of President Calvin Coolidge. The most important people gathered to exchange information and honour the achievements of aviation, which was accepted as part of modern life. The aircraft had proved their value during the Great War, and increasingly civil aviation played a decisive role in many areas, such as the air postal service.

F – Le timbre montre l’avion des frères Wright survolant Washington DC. De fait l’avion n’a jamais survolé Washington, mais la capitale fut ajoutée à cause du lieu de la conférence.
E – The stamp shows the Wright brothers flying over Washington DC. In fact the plane never flew over Washington, but the capital was added because of the conference venue.
