Do cards with a blank back fall under the category of postcards or theme cards?
Maybe under another category, I'd be happy to hear about it.
Kind regards,
Collector's heart.

I have seen a lot of duplicate Regions and Cities/Places and i dont really know what to do with them. I mostly just add all of them to the one with more Items inside of it and the one in the Language of the Country but i cant delete the empty ones. What can i do about that or is there no fix to it. Because for example there is 2 Regions called Nordrhein-Westfalen and 1 Named North rhine-Westphalia and its just all the same. i moved all items into the Nordrhein-Westfalen with the most items but now theres 2 Empty ones.

Dear collectors, I saw a postcard of Pension Berkenbosch in Eerbeek from 1902 on this site. The name M. Lampings-van Bosse is mentioned on it. This is Mimi Lampings-van Bosse from Amsterdam. I am researching her sister, Anna Weber-van Bosse (1852-1942), the first woman in the Netherlands to receive an honorary doctorate. I am writing a book about this. I am very curious whether there is anything on the back of this card. I understand that someone has the postcard in his/her collection, and that it is not for sale, but I would like to know more about the text on the back. Would the person who owns the card please contact me? andreakieskamp@live.nl. Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for the responses!
You are indeed saying what I already suspected, namely a picture of a street (neighborhood) that seems meaningless at first glance, but of course can be sent as a kind of moving notice.
It was noticeable that many postcards showing a house or a few houses in a street were relatively common, but did not necessarily have great (also knowing the history) value. Like the attached one I mean. Of this entire district I know of only 1 other postcard, but that one is more focused on the retirement homes that are there.

It's not entirely clear to me which period you mean exactly, but I can probably say something about it in general terms.

Before World War II, an incredible number of letters and postcards were sent. For almost everyone, the mail was the most important means of communication. Almost no one owned a telephone or a car.
Often, when a new neighborhood was built, a local shopkeeper would have photographs taken to have postcards made. Residents could then send a postcard to family, friends, and acquaintances showing where they lived.

[Edit]
After WWII there was a huge housing shortage until the 1960s. People were happy and proud when they got a new home. Back then it was even more important to send a postcard showing the street your new home was in.

Baarnsche-Ansichten Perhaps these kinds of pictures were taken by bread photographers and later sold to the residents in the street in question.

I regularly come across postcards that show a street, nothing special, a few houses and nothing else. Of course, in today's time, a beautiful picture from times gone by, but what was it like then? Was a street simply photographed? Did someone pay for it? Or was it pure randomness?

Indeed!

On the website brabantsdorpsleven.nl I found the following text:

"Wilfried Deyhle's cards can be recognized by the logo he placed on the address side: the Amsterdam coat of arms with the three St. Andrew's crosses with the imperial crown above it."

The dropdown has now been adjusted so that the results that start with what has been entered are shown first.
The possibility of duplication has not yet been remedied.

That may be so, but if the dropdown Land (new value) appears at the top, then Land apparently does not exist yet and people will not scroll to find the existing Land. I know this now for this publisher and will be alert to it, but this is not desirable.

The dropdown is searched for what is entered, so the results shown will contain that text in whatever position. Then the results in the dropdown are shown alphabetically.
Many people search for a part that is in the middle of the value, so not just from the beginning.

What goes wrong is that the duplicates are accepted.

. After scrolling for a while I can indeed also find a "Country", which I suspect is the desired one, but actually it should be at the top of the list

Hmm, I've reported that before, but I saw it wrong....

Those unnecessary spaces remain an annoyance (with freely fillable fields). I do occasionally improve something, such as spaces before or after the Nominal value of stamps. And then I sometimes get a message from another user asking what I'm up to, because the difference can't be seen in the History ;-)

It wasn't spaces that caused this (because then Greenhorn would have had to fill it in 9 different ways).
Try creating a new item in Postcards and fill in “Country” (without a space) in Publisher. The option to create a new value for that will remain, while in the rest of the categories that option will automatically disappear and you can only choose the existing values.

Edit: it seems to be specifically related to this word. Just fill in "Disney" as publisher (or disney, or DISNEY), and you'll see that it works properly.

buizer Can you also suppress a space at the end?
How is 'the system' supposed to know whether or not there is something more to come?
If the name consists of multiple words?
At/on the end (of each field to be filled in, as mentioned) is not somewhere in the middle, also with multiple words there is only one place that is at/on the end. The spaces between words are then somewhere in the middle (or between the beginning and the end).

But surely it should be impossible to add a completely identical name (as a duplicate)?!

In the old input form this was indeed impossible, even if you used capital letters instead of lower case letters, the system merged this itself.
I will report this as a bug with the new form.

Apples and pears
One word will probably do the trick...
1cm and 1cm are 2 different things on LD I think...

And I think that spaces at the beginning and end of each field to be filled in can be suppressed (removed) before saving.

Not entirely impossible to insert the same/identical name into a dropdown list.
My system does not recognize spaces.
So:
Country (space before 'country')
Country (no space before and after 'country')
Country (space after 'country')
And I don't think there's much you can do about that...

There is now only one Publisher general name "Country".
When entering the name Country, you then have to scroll down (the dropdown sometimes needs to load) until you find Country and select it.
